FEDERAL

Corporation for National & Community Service
Social Innovation Fund Classic Cooperative Agreements

Deadline: May 10 (intent to apply notices are strongly encouraged by April 15)

Eligibility: Private grant making institutions receive these funds and then sub-award them to nonprofits focused on low-income family issues

Funding Available: $31 million for 10 awards ranging from $1 million to $10 million each (a 1:1 match required)

Description: The grantees use these funds to support innovative community-based nonprofits working in low-income communities in the focus areas of healthy futures, youth development and economic opportunity. The grantmaking institutions must match every federal dollar of the grant award in cash and then identify and invest at least 80% of the funding in promising nonprofits.

In addition to the $31 million, approximately $8 million is available for the continuation of existing grants.

CNCS is particularly interested in supporting applications that propose to include one or more of the following optional priorities:

  • Juvenile Justice: Strategies to improve outcomes for youth involved in, or at risk for involvement with, the juvenile justice system.
  • Technology: Strategies to utilize technology to increase the impact of the proposed evidence-based social programs.
  • Early Childhood Education: Strategies to expand access to high quality early learning education for children through age five that prepares them for lifelong success.

Completing this self-assessment will help you determine if this is the right funding opportunity for your organization, and what it takes to manage a SIF Classic grant.
